Royals Become More Inclusive

King Felipe and Queen Letizia are continuing efforts to make the Spanish Crown more inclusive.

This year’s reception at Almudaina Palace in Palma de Mallorca, a summer tradition, included several hundred guests from across the political and social spectrum.

On of King Felipe and Queen Letizia’s first acts was to convene representatives from civil society, including representatives of the gay and lesbian advocacy community. They did something similar last week in Palma.

King Felipe also last week hosted his first meeting with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy at Marivent Palace in Mallorca.

Then on Saturday His Majesty handed out awards at the 33rd annual King’s Cup regatta.

Observers are wondering whether King Felipe and Queen Letizia will continue vacationing in the Balearic Islands and follow through with the associated traditions.

This year they stuck to the script wanting to boost the Monarchy’s standing rather than anger people who have gotten used to seeing the Royal Family on the island every year.
