Queen Letizia has returned from a trip to Mozambique to review Spanish cooperation and aid efforts in that country.

Health minister Nazira Vali Abdula helped welcome the Queen. She also met with President Filipe Jacinto Nyussi and First Lady Isaura Nyussi.

The queen’s travel comes amid ongoing criticism her agenda is not as busy as it should be.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia returned from their brief Easter vacation to hand out on of Spain’s most notable awards.

Their Majesties gave Uruguay writer Ida Vitale this year’s Cervantes Prize for Spanish language literature.

The award ceremony occurs at the University of Alcalá, the community where Miguel de Cervantes was born.

Festivities also include a lunch at the Royal Palace in Madrid, presided by the King and attended by top officials.

The University of Alcalá was founded in 1293 and re-established in the late 1970’s.

Members of the Spanish Royal Family kept with tradition by attending Easter services at the Palma de Mallorca Cathedral.

King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia were there, along with Queen Sofia.

Queen Sofia, always faithful to Mallorca, was already on the island ahead of Easter.

Queen Letizia and King Felipe, and their daughters, had a private vacation in Rome, news outlets reported.

The Spanish Royal Household is expressing solidarity with the people of France following the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral yesterday evening.

In a tweet, the Royal Household expressed confidence in rebuilding the historic structure.

A mosque based in Seville is asking King Felipe to apologize to Spain’s Muslim community for abuses suffered during the Reconquest.

The letter to His Majesty from leaders of the Ishbilia Mosque follows a missive from Mexico’s new left-wing president last month asking Spain to apologize for the conquest of the Americas.

Muslims ruled large swaths of Spain during the Middle Ages. Christian kingdoms recovered land over the centuries, culminating in the taking of Granada in the late 1400s.

The Ishbilia Mosque letter says King Felipe should apologize to Spain’s Islamic community just like the country did with Jews expelled during the same time period.

Mexico’s new left wind president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is asking King Felipe to apologize for Spain’s conquest of Mexico.

The president made the request in a letter to His Majesty through the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

López Obrador, who has good relations with Spain, says an apology is the only way to gain true reconciliation. He send the Pope a similar missive.

The Spanish government, according to El Pais, is not at all thrilled by the letter to the King.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia arrived in Buenos Aires today for a state visit to Argentina.

The trip made news as it started because, according to media reports, the King’s jet had a close call with an Argentine official airplane upon landing.

Officials are downplaying the incident, saying there was no significant damage.

Separately, Their Majesties were late in exiting their aircraft because Argentine authorities could not find the correct stairs.
