Queen Letizia traveled to Panama this weekend to meet up with her daughter, Princess Leonor, who has been sailing in Spain’s famed Elcano training ship.

Queen Sofia was the only member of the Spanish Royal Family to make significant public appearances during Holy Week.
King Felipe’s mother was in Seville for Good Friday to see the city’s religious processions marking Jesus’ death. Her sister, Princess Irene, has long been Queen Sofia’s companion but is not in good health and was not present.
Queen Sofia was also in the Balearic Islands, as is her tradition. She attended a Mallorca benefit concert in the days before Easter Weekend.
Members of the Spanish Royal Family used to attend Easter Mass in Mallorca but that tradition has lapsed.
Also seen during Holy Week in Seville were members of the House of Alba. The late Duchess of Alba was often at her Dueñas Palace in the city.

Vargas Llosa, born in Peru, was active in Spanish society and politics. He was left-wing in his youth but moved to the right as he got older and has been a fierce defender of the Spanish Crown.
King Felipe offered Spain’s renewed support for Ukraine this weekend as President Donald Trump threatens to cut off U.S. support.
His Majesty spoke in favor of Ukraine’s “legitimate defense” and in wanting to secure a “lasting peace” respecting “territorial integrity.”
Don Felipe’s comments at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona followed Trump and U.S. Vice President JD Vance berating Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House.
King Felipe has been focused on foreign affairs in recent weeks. He just returned from a trip to Uruguay to welcome that country’s new president, Yamandú Orsi.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia also recently hosted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Madrid Royal Palace.

Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, has begun a months-long tour of the world in the Armanda training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano.

Princess Leonor already made a stop in Spain’s Canary Islands off the coast of Africa after departing from the Port of Cadiz. It’s a similar route taken by Spanish explorers hundreds of years ago.

The Elcano will travel around Latin America and the Caribbean and end up in New York City later this year.

This was the second Christmas Eve speech at the Madrid Royal Palace of King Felipe’s reign. His appearance from the Hall of Columns helped mark his 10th anniversary on the throne. Usually, he appears at Zarzuela Palace — where the king actually lives — outside of central Madrid.
