Spain’s Constitutional Court today invalidated a panel tasked with investigating the Royal Family.
The Catalan Parliament, led by pro-independence and republican parties, created the panel to probe any wrongdoing by the King or his relatives.
Today the Constitutional Court said the Catalan Parliament did not have the power take such a step.

The Constitutional Court also noted the King is inviolable under the Spanish Constitution.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia this month visited two communities affected by natural disasters.
This week they traveled to Arganda del Rey in the Madrid region to survey the aftermath of flooding.


Earlier this month, the King and Queen saw the impact of wildfires in the Canary Islands.

Their Majesties, siting in the Royal Box, saw a performance of Don Carlo with a host of dignitaries.

The King and Queen have attended several opera season openings in recent years.

The Socialists, who won the most recent elections, have been unable to form a government and the King is considering whether new elections are in order.

King Felipe is running the clock until early next week to see if the Socialists are able to get enough votes in Parliament to keep running the country.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia were in Seville last week marking the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano.

Among the visitors have been King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Queen Sofia and other relatives.
One video showed Queen Sofia coming out with her sister, Princes Irene of Greece, and intimate friend, Princess Tatiana Radziwill.
King Juan Carlos’ granddaughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, are said to have given their grandfather a special and intimate gift.
Infanta Elena, King Felipe’s elder sister and her son, also named Felipe, were at the Quirón Hospital in Madrid in recent days.
Don Juan Carlos is said to be recovering well from the triple bypass. He has undergone numerous surgeries over the years, mainly for his hip.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez met with King Felipe at Marivent Palace in Mallorca today.
The premier has regular meetings with the King, including during the Royal Family’s public vacation in the Mediterranean island.

The King and prime minister likely discussed the ongoing political impasse keeping Spain’s main parties from forming a government.
Separately, King Felipe, Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia also held a reception for Balearic Islands officials at Almudaina Palace.

Other than the meeting and reception, members of the Spanish Royal Family generally don’t hold public events during August.
King Felipe told media outlets he hopes political parties can form a government and the country can avoid new elections.
His Majesty made the comments to media outlets following his public vacation in the Balearic Island of Mallorca.
Over the weekend, the King presided over the awards ceremony of the King’s Cup regatta.

The King also met with local officials, including Balearic Islands President Francina Armengol.

Members of the Spanish Royal Family stay at the Marivent Palace in Mallorca but hold public audiences at the Almudaina Palace.
