King Felipe this week delivered strong words about Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip, calling for an end to the “massacre” there.

His Majesty’s speech, which surprised many people on the Spanish right, tracks Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s pressure campaign on Israel. Indeed, Spain recently recognized a Palestinian state.

The King, during his speech, noted Spain’s Jewish history and called on Hamas to release hostages it continues to hold.

He also called on Israel to follow international law in Gaza and the West Bank. Kind Felipe said it was painful and hard to understand what Israel was doing in Gaza.

As we have mentioned here before, King Felipe still counts the King of Jerusalem as one of his historical titles.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia returned in recent days from a state visit to Egypt, where they met with local government and business officials, and visited historic sites.

Queen Sofia spent two days in Washington for a meeting on Spain’s centuries old relationship with the United States.

Her Majesty attended events at the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Constitution Hall just blocks from the White House. The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute helped organize the historical symposium.

During her time in the U.S., Queen Sofia held a reception at the Spanish ambassador’s residence for Washington-area Spaniards.

Members of the Spanish Royal Family are back at work following the traditional August vacation break.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia spent days late last month visiting several communities affected by this summer’s wildfires.

His Majesty was at the Supreme Court in Madrid last week for the opening of the judicial year. It’s an opportunity for the King to speak with top judges.
