The Spanish Royal Household was quick to respond to a high-speed train accident that killed dozens of people south of Madrid on Wednesday.
“We are moved and concerned by the train accident in Urda (Toledo). We share in the sorrow of the families and loved ones of the deceased and send our affection to the injured and those affected,” said a statement on X soon after the crash.
“Our support also goes to the emergency teams and all those working in the area to help as much as possible under these circumstances.”
King Felipe then spoke to the media during a visit to a military base in Valencia and said the most important thing was to mourn the loss of life and support affected families.

If history is any indication, King Felipe and Queen Letizia will likely travel in the near future to meet with rescue workers and affected families.
